Mount Teide rises out of a massive volcanic crater that's 48 kms wide. It rises to a staggering 3.718 metres. This is the highest mountain in the whole of Spain. It's pronounced the same as lady; (teid - e). Teide was declared a national park in 1954.

The natural park is 2000 metres above sea level and has some very extreme weather conditions. In winter it gets snow and gale force winds, often causing the roads to be closed off. During the summer, temperatures can reach a sweltering 40C.

To get to the top of the volcano, you can take a cable car or else walk up. The views from the summit are out of this world (literally!). On a clear day, you can see all the way to Gran canaria, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and beyond...

Teide is an absolute must see for any visitor to the island. It's the most visited tourist attraction on the Canary Islands and is truly spectacular.
